Course Overview
In this course, you explore bamboo from material selection to finished product. You learn how its properties shape design choices, then develop ideas through drawing, measurement, prototyping, joinery, shaping, finishing and quality review. You can apply those skills to craft, accessories, furniture, interior components and product manufacturing while considering responsible sourcing.
Use a real need to guide your projects. You might design furniture for a compact Nairobi room, create an accessory for a local user, or compare bamboo finishes and construction methods. Record your process with a clear brief, measured drawings, cutting lists, photographs, material notes, test results and a portfolio that shows how you improved your work.
When your project touches construction, involve qualified technical professionals. This course develops your bamboo product and craft skills; it does not qualify you to design or certify structural components. Follow approved workshop procedures and instructor guidance when you handle machinery, treatments, chemicals or installation tasks.
