Planning a stone-carving design study safely

Illustrative scene of learners exploring Stone Arts, Mosaics & Architectural Ornament in a bright studio

Start your stone-carving project with observation and a clear idea. Study the stone’s colour, texture and shape, then sketch how you want the form to develop. Use a small maquette to test proportion before you commit to a material or workshop process. Record what you want the finished study to communicate.

Practical stone work can involve sharp tools, dust, noise and heavy material. Ask what induction, protective equipment, dust control, tool authorisation and supervision are provided. Do not attempt carving from online instructions or work with a material whose source and handling requirements are unknown.

KICD’s Creative Arts curriculum gives broad arts context; it is not a technical stonework manual. Explore KENCID’s Sculpture course for related three-dimensional practice, and contact Admissions for current Stone Arts course details.
