Glass, colour and light in interior design

Illustrative scene of learners exploring Glass Arts & Craft in a bright studio

Glass can filter, reflect or transmit light, so its colour and texture affect how a space feels throughout the day. In a design brief, note the window orientation, surrounding finishes, privacy needs, glare and the people who will use the room. Compare a sample in the actual light conditions where possible.

Decorative glass is not a substitute for a building specification. A design proposal should identify the intended function and leave structural, fire, security and installation requirements to the relevant qualified professionals. Do not describe an artistic sample as approved glazing.

For wider study of materials and space in Kenya, explore KENCID's Interior Design course. Local studios such as Glass Art Kenya show decorative-glass work, but review every installation for its specific use.
