How to plan a mould for a creative product concept

Illustrative scene of learners exploring Mould Making, Model Making & Composite Fabrication in a bright studio

Before planning a mould, define what the product is meant to do and what the first sample should teach you. Note its dimensions, surface, quantity, intended use and the material that may be considered. Sketch the form and identify where the shape might be difficult to reproduce or finish.

Discuss the plan with qualified workshop staff before selecting a method. Material compatibility, release, ventilation and protective controls depend on the process and facility. Do not use an online diagram as a fabrication instruction. A classroom mould study is not product certification or proof that the final object can be manufactured safely.
