What goes into a stained-glass design study?

Illustrative scene of learners exploring Glass Arts & Craft in a bright studio

A stained-glass design study begins with the setting and the light it receives. Is the work viewed close up or from across a room? Does it frame a view, create privacy or serve as a decorative panel? These questions shape the scale, colour, pattern and visual weight of the design.

Prepare several sketches and a colour study before making a sample. Record the source of references, intended setting and what the model can and cannot show. A small panel study can help discuss visual effect; it does not prove a full installation's structural, fire or weather performance. Those applications need the correct specification and professional review.

Local studios offer examples of glass art in Kenya, while KICD’s Creative Arts curriculum provides broader arts-learning context.
