Developing a metal sculpture from sketch to scale model
Begin with a brief that names the intended audience, setting, size and central idea. Make several thumbnail sketches before settling on one direction. A small model can test proportion, balance and how a viewer might move around the form without committing to metal or workshop processes too early.
Record the material questions that remain: approximate weight, joining approach, edge treatment, finish, handling and maintenance. A model cannot prove that a full-size sculpture will stand safely or meet structural requirements. Bring those questions to the qualified technical staff responsible for the project and use approved facilities only.
